• Assigning & Removing Udemy Business Pro Licenses

    This article outlines how Udemy Business admins can assign and remove Udemy Business Pro licenses for learners. Learn more about what Udemy Business Pro offers.

    Important note: If your organization joined Udemy Business after February 16, 2026, you’ll see a new experience for managing licenses. Please see these instructions for assigning and removing licenses instead. We're currently working on transitioning all customers to the new experience.

    Please note:

    • You’ll need to have purchased Udemy Business Pro to assign Pro licenses.
    • For customers who have acquired Pro licenses for all Udemy Business users, Pro licenses will be automatically assigned when invitations for Udemy Business are accepted. 
    • For customers who have SSO/SCIM, Pro licenses will be automatically assigned when users authenticate via SSO/SCIM.
    • For organizations who have acquired Udemy Business Pro licenses for all their users, these SCIM users will be provisioned a Udemy Business Pro license at the time of login.
    • All SCIM users can have Pro licenses managed via the mechanisms outlined below.
    • For customers who have Udemy Business Pro for some learners, but not all, a Udemy Business Pro license can be assigned to any active user or at the same time a Udemy Business license is assigned.
    • Only admins can assign and remove Udemy Business Pro licenses. Admins can also assign (and unassign) a Udemy Business Pro license for admins and group admins, including themselves, if required.

    How to assign Udemy Business Pro licenses

    You can assign Udemy Business Pro licenses to users individually or in bulk (via CSV Import).

    • Note: Only admins can assign and remove Udemy Business Pro licenses.

    To assign a Pro license to an individual user:

    2. In your Udemy business account, navigate to Manage > Manage Users

    3. Locate the user by entering their name or email address into the search tool, or by selecting

    the checkbox next to their name on the list of all users.

    4. Click the three vertical dots on the right side of the user's row and select Assign pro license

    • You can also access these options from the user’s profile page.

    5. You'll be presented with further instructions and information on what it means to assign a Pro license to a user before confirming assignment.

    6. Click Assign.

    The user will receive an email notification, prompting them to log in and access the Udemy Business Pro features.

    How to automatically assign Pro licenses to Enterprise users who request access to Pro content 

    Users with Enterprise licenses can request access to Pro content. You can configure the automatic assignment of Pro licenses when users make these requests. 

    To enable this feature: 

    1. Navigate to Admin tools > Manage licenses

    2. On the License settings tab, toggle on the Pro auto assignment setting. 

    Once enabled, Pro license requests made in the product will be automatically approved if there are Pro licenses available within the license pool or organization.

    How to assign Udemy Business Pro licenses via CSV Import 

    If you wish to assign Udemy Business Pro licenses to more than one user, you can do so easily by importing a CSV file.

    Automatic assignment of Pro licenses

    • For customers who have acquired Pro licenses for all Udemy Business users, Pro licenses will be automatically assigned when invitations for Udemy Business are accepted. 
    • Pro licenses will be automatically assigned when users authenticate via SSO/SCI

    How to edit license type for pending invitations 

    You can edit the type of license for pending invitations (users who have been sent an invitation email but haven't accepted it yet).

    To edit the license type:

    1. Navigate to Manage Users > Pending Invitations and locate the user.

    2. Click the three vertical dots on the right side of their row and click Edit license type.

    3. Select the license type and click Save changes.

    How to Remove Udemy Business Pro licenses

    1. Navigate to Manage > Manage Users and locate the user.

    2. Once you’ve located the user you wish to remove a Pro license from, click the three vertical dots on the right side of their row. You can also access these options on the user’s profile page.

    4. You'll be presented with further instructions and information on what it means to remove a Pro license for a user before confirming.

    5. Click the Remove button.

    The learner will no longer have access to Udemy Business Pro features, but they'll still have access to Udemy Business. Additionally, Udemy Business Pro reporting will be retained for this user.

    How to assign or remove Udemy Business Pro licenses via SCIM

    If you manage your users in Udemy via SCIM, you can assign and remove Udemy Business Pro licenses via this method. 

    Using the licenseTypes attribute in SCIM API

    By adding the LicenseTypes attribute to your Identity Provider, you can add and remove Udemy Business Pro licenses for a user. 

    Once set in your Identity Provider, and providing there are available licenses, active users will receive their Udemy Business Pro license. Inactive users will receive their license at activation.
