Who can build learning paths through this new method

Note: This feature is not available to learners.

How to create a Skills Mapping and AI-powered learning path

1. To create a Skills Mapping and AI-powered learning path, select the “Create learning path” button within the banner.

You can also select the “Create path” button and choose to either create the path manually or with AI.

2. Once you’ve chosen to create a learning path using AI, you’ll be asked

to answer a set of five questions to provide details on your upskilling needs. Your answers should be specific for a single learning path.

The questions are:

  1. Describe the overall theme of your learning path in 10 words or less.
  2. What do you want the learners to know and be able to do by the end of the learning path? Include 1 or more specific skills.
  3. Which tools or technologies (if any) would you like the learning path to include?
  4. Which audience is this skills tree intended for?
  5. How proficient is the audience in these particular skills?

Here are some suggestions and best practices for answering the skill definition questions.

3. After you’ve answered all of the questions in the intake form, select “Build skills tree.”

AI then goes to work to translate your specific skill needs into a more detailed set of skills requirements, in the form of a hierarchical skills tree.

4. Review the generated skills tree to ensure it aligns to the details in your skill definition responses. The words in this skills tree will be used to search the Udemy Business catalog for relevant course content.

You can edit the resulting skills tree. Learn more about what a skills tree is and the best practices for modifying skills trees.

5. When you are satisfied with the generated skills tree, select the “Save” button at the top right to save any modifications, and then select the “Map skills to content” button in the lower right.

Our search algorithms will then go to work to map relevant Udemy content to the skill requirements detailed in your skills tree.

The result is a set of content recommendations optimized for efficiency, and includes content that aligns best with the skills tree, minimizing redundancies and maximizing relevance.

You are able to preview each set of content recommendations. You also have the option to replace each recommendation. Select “Edit” in the top right corner to discover top content recommendations provided for replacement.

6. When you are satisfied with your content selections, select the “Done” button at the top right to save any modifications. Then, select the “Create learning path” button in the lower right to view the final learning path. Each section of the learning path corresponds to a domain of the skills tree.

Note: Your employees will have the option to view all of the course content if they require additional context outside of the recommended sections.

7. All editing and curating capabilities remain the same as the manual learning path experience. When in edit mode, you can select  “add content”  to add any custom content. Or, if your organization has a Pro license, you can add Assessments and Labs.

Note: If available, we recommend adding an Assessment at the beginning or end of the learning path so that learners can assess their skill progress. We also recommend adding Labs either at the end of the learning path or at the end of a relevant learning path section so that learners can apply the knowledge and skills as they practice completing an authentic project.
