Overview: Sales Tax (U.S. Only)

This article provides an overview of Udemy's sales tax requirements for purchases made by organizations located in the United States.

  • Learn about Value Added Tax (VAT) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) practices across different countries.

Udemy, Inc. collects state and local sales tax on its products as required by applicable sales tax regulations. The taxability of Udemy Business offerings may change from time to time in accordance with changes in tax laws, regulations, and statutes.

Applicable states for sales tax

Sales tax will be added to purchases by organizations with shipping addresses located in the following states or territories:

Please note: If you have a signed order form or another signed agreement with Udemy that governs your organization’s purchase of Udemy Business, your taxed amount will correspond to the "Ship to" address on your invoice.

* For shipping addresses in Florida, Communication Services Tax (CST) will be charged to the organization.

**For shipping addresses in Hawaii, General Excise Tax (GET) will be passed on to the organization.

Exemptions to sales tax

Organizations in the U.S. with a tax-exempt status can reach out to the Udemy Business Support Team to process their tax exemption. 

To request a tax exemption, organizations need to provide the following:

1. A copy of the tax exemption certificate.

  • For corporate billing, please provide a fully executed copy of the tax exemption certificate corresponding to the "Ship to" state/territory on the invoice. This certificate will be used to issue a tax credit for the amount charged on the invoice.
