What are labs?
Labs are a learning experience that allows learners to apply their skills by completing real-world projects using a workspace.
Note: Please see below for important information regarding the use of Workspaces.
What types of labs are available
Udemy currently provides labs for the following areas
- Cloud labs
- Development Labs
- DevOps Labs
How to access labs
You can access labs in three different ways:
1. In the top navigation, hover over Explore to access the drop-down menu where you can see all the features available with a Pro account, including labs. When you click on Labs you’ll be brought to the labs landing page where you will find all available labs.
2. If you have a specific topic in mind, you can type it in the search bar from your logged-in home screen.
Both courses and relevant labs will appear in the search results.
Next, use the right arrow button to scroll through the carousel of lab results. To start a lab click Start practicing.
3. Alternatively, you can search for a lab by clicking on the Labs tab on the home page.
4. Then, click Explore labs.
You’ll be brought to the labs landing page (see below), where you will find all available labs.
To refine your search, type in a topic or keyword to the search bar, or click on a category radio button and/or a popular topic.
To choose a lab, click Start practicing on any lab listed on the right to begin learning.
Selecting a lab mode
We offer multiple modes for labs. Modes allow you to choose what level of guidance you want to receive when engaging in hands-on practice activities.
Completing labs over a period of time
Labs can be completed over a period of time depending on the lab’s Project expiration time. You can locate the Project expiration time by selecting a lab and scrolling to the Lab scenario section.
If you wish to leave a lab and save your progress, you can either click the back arrow or End button at the top of the lab's task page.
You will receive a notification prompting you to end or leave your lab. Select Leave lab if you wish to save your progress. If you select “End lab” before you’ve completed it, you will lose any progress you’ve made to this point.
To return to a lab you have previously started, navigate to the Labs page following the instructions outlined above. On the Labs page you will see a list of started labs available and the time remaining before they expire.
